How to install Petway Spacer Rubber Tape
The Petway spacer rubber tape is applied to create a tight seal between the pet door frame and the screen or glass, helping to prevent gaps, vibration, weather and drafts.
Stainless Steel Mesh: For stainless steel mesh security screens, create an L-shape on both sides of the pet door frame using 6mm spacer rubber tape. Leave approximately 10mm clearance at the side and bottom so the pet door can slide securely onto the security screen door frame (see product photos here).
STEP 1. Apply the foam tape to the outer edge of the frame (as shown in diagram above). Tape is required on the top and left-hand side only.
STEP 2. Start the tape from the top right hand corner and carefully peel back a small section of the protective liner to expose the adhesive.
STEP 3. Press the tape firmly into place at the top of the frame while slowly removing the backing as you go. Avoid stretching the tape. Keep it straight and even.
STEP 4. At the top-left corner, cut a small triangular notch out of the foam tape so it can fold neatly and form a clean L-shape without bunching.
STEP 5. Press the tape firmly down the left hand side of the frame. When you reach the bottom corner cut off cleanly.
STEP 6. Repeat the same process on the matching side of the other frame.
Glass: For 5/6mm glass we recommend 3mm thick on the outside frame and 6mm thick on the inside frame for a snug compressed fit, however these can be swapped depending on the door clearance. Installation on glass requires spacer rubber tape to be wrapped around the full perimeter of each side of the pet door.
